I'm talking more today about finding the right place to start a story, how difficult that can be, and why I always listen when someone tells me where they think it should start. Also how an agent can be helpful in these early stages, and why I have newfound respect for people who can roast well.

Reminiscing about my Brother Correctronic and how that likely shaped the way I write for discovery - and how I shape Act I of any book in general. Also news on the cover of Lonen's Reign!

Thoughts today on starting the story in the right place, how to weave in backstory without bogging down the velocity of the opening, and how this is never easy. I'm giving a specific example with the TWINSTAR collaboration and how we've ended up doing a scrape and rebuild with the concept. Also a review of the movie A Star Is Born, which spoils the ending, so beware. However, on this fourth remake, I think I was *the only person in the world" who didn't know how it ended. But if you're like me and don't want to know, beware of spoilers.

Talking today about knowing where a story starts and how that can be difficult, along with taking critique in general. I mention Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey and answer a question from a listener on Exile of the Seas. The morning glory photo is a bit out of focus, but I love how the throat looks full of light.
