My word choice of “push” will now haunt me for all my days. They do beat outlining into you since middle school. I’m in grad school right now and I still write papers by mostly winging them unless the professor requires a prelim outline. My outlines are usually like “intro, background, issues, solutions, risks, conclusion” quickly scribbled into a notebook.
The women in my immediate family are similar sizes and we like similar styles so it makes keeping track of what clothes belongs to whom a nightmare. And strangers sometimes feel the need to point out we dress alike. Thank goodness they do or otherwise we would never have known! 😛
So, what I’d quibble here is that “care” and “planning” aren’t equivalent. That’s the part that bothers me, that we tend to equate planning with quality.

I hate writing papers so I do the bare minimum but I feel that something like a book should require more care and planning.

LOL! We’ll both let go of “push” and but it behind us 🙂
Isn’t it great to have strangers to point this stuff out??? :-/
Anytime I had to do an outline in school, I would write the thing first, and then “outline” it. Absolutely despised it being required.
