I also don’t like competing noises. I do listen to music while writing though, because it helps drown out all the other little noises that would otherwise distract me.
A lot of people seems to like music as that kind of white noise. I used to – but I think moving to Santa Fe changed that. Where we live is so QUIET that music can be kind of startling
We live kind of rural. Most of the noises are caused by Gary, the cats, birds/other wildlife, or the house itself (my office is near the solar water heater, for instance). Having music on also helps me stay awake if I’m feeling drowsy.
