  1. Most of the things I want most to blog about I feel like I can’t, which so far has resulted in me not blogging about anything, for, uhm, some number of years? Oh well.

I will admit that for the in-person convo you mention, I would not be aware enough to realize you were trying to engage the other person and if you brought up a subject I was into (like horses), I would totally just jump in and talk. The online example is more clear as to who/why you are asking the question, at least to me.

Recently, a friend in my local group was giving a presentation about a subject that I had specifically requested he discuss b/c I really wanted to hear what he had to say about it. Also, he had just gotten Nebula-nominated for what was essentially the topic. Some newbie author guy kept interrupting and wanting to give his opinion on everything. I was SO irritated. “I did not come here to hear random dude’s opinion!” This type of thing happens all_the_time. Argh!

  2. I think the phrasing of “why should I…” can sound rude, but would like to imagine most people mean it more in “what does this…” way (i.e. “what does RWA or SFWA do for authors” as opposed to “why should I join RWA/SFWA”). Maybe wishful thinking on my part. And I agree they should do their own research first.

I am totally jealous of your ability to read in a car!

I get terrible motion sickness if I try to read in a car or on a bus. I do okay reading on planes. But I would love to be able to read when others are driving and cannot.
