Harvest Moon sets just at sunrise this morning – just lovely.
Have I ever mentioned that our dog, Zip, is pretty much completely deaf? Yeah… He’s an older dog now and it happens. Most of the time it’s not that big a deal. He’s a border collie, so he responds well to hand signals. And he’s generally pretty well behaved. Because he can’t hear, he’s less sensitive to being disturbed by outside noises. So, no more pacing at night or running to the window to see who’s going by.
However.
He dreams like a son-of-a-gun. Couple this with no sense of his own sound-production….
That’s right. 4am he had a bark-attack. Full volume, right next to the bed.
Oh. My. God.
I sat up bolt upright. The kitties went sailing. You know how in stories people say they feel like their hearts might burst? Yeah, that. Nothing like a huge adrenaline kick yanking you out of a deep sleep in the early morning.
I could swear I have an epinephrine hangover today.
Yowza! Not fun.
We’re having the opposite problem with our old dog (a border collie cross, btw). She *thinks* she hears things during the day, but at night is useless to alert us to outside noises. Like the bear that rattled around our stuff 😛
ah, between our dogs, we have the worst of both worlds! (you didn’t need those carbs anyway…)
Ha. Madam Erie (our stone deaf 16 year old feline) likes Zip’s style. Oh. And welcome to my hell. Klingon opera as sung by feline at the top of said feline’s considerable lung power. As always, playing in an enclosed space near you at 1am. Reprise at 4am. And 6am.
So considerate of her to build encores into her repertoire. Just in case you managed to sleep through a performance.
On the upside, you had an extra hour or two this morning to dedicate to the WiP, right? Ya know, once your hands stopped trembling.
I should have, KAK. We went “back to sleep.” But I don’t think it counted. I kind of wish I had just gotten up!
Oh, ugh! May Zip have more peaceful dreams tonight. 🙂
Thank you for the good wishes, Linda. I sure hope so!
