Sadly, at this point I don’t think you can separate the RITA contest from the organization’s problems. Long term I hope RWA can be saved. But with so many authors withdrawing their books already and librarians and reviewers withdrawing from the was-going-to-be-new-and-improved judging pool I think for the short term they should cancel this year’s awards.
Indeed – and I’ve seen several authors of color stating that they intend to keep their books in the contest this year. I’m seeing what the next weeks bring before I make any decisions.
