  1. Viz entourages and cats who walk alone: I remember standing in line at my first conference (the last RT). I started talking to the woman next to me, a writer I hadn’t heard of then or since. She gave her assistant a significant look and he took over talking to me. (He was lovely and we talked a few times after.) She wasn’t shy–I saw her talking to plenty of other people–but I think the entourage was there to deal with the hoipolloi. Seems to defeat the whole purpose of conferences!
