Reverse harem has to be done really well for me to like it. I like a strong story with the reverse harem not being just sex, sex and hey, more sex.

Harem animes are a thing but I don’t think the guy is necessarily having sex with all of the women. My understanding is they’re usually comedies. There’s sexual innuendo, awkward situations, and misunderstandings of the Three’s Company flavor. The women may love him and dote on him though he may not reciprocate or even be comfortable with the attention. But I never really watched those so take it with a grain of salt. I think the shift from that to self-published reverse harem can probably be traced through fan fiction as with a lot of other tropes.
