I can’t even see ad space on webpages anymore. There have been times when a website has positioned data I NEED to see in a way that looks like an ad, and I could NOT find the data.
FWIW, the only way you can stop having your data tracked is if you turn cookies off (which will then cause a lot of issues since a lot of sites rely on them). I wouldn’t really worry that much about the Yahoo thing if you’re just sending your junk mail there anyways. There’s also an option to opt-out.
Speaking from the side of the people who try to use this data (my team manages this type of data for marketing groups to analyze), btw, I can tell you that it’s very difficult to get anything useful out of it.
That is comforting to know! And yeah – I do purge cookies when and where I can. As you point out, some sites won’t let you in without them, alas. I might have to check that Yahoo opt-out, but that’s all great feedback. Thank you! 🙂
