I think it’s interesting that “needing to do stuff with your hands” is brought up as possibly being a “women’s thing”, when what I associate it with is Autism spectrum (which is, traditionally, badly under-diagnosed in women) and/or ADD. It makes me wonder if this is one of the coping mechanisms that Autistic women developed as a result of the different gender expectations, or if it is just two separate/unrelated things. Either way, I think it was the teacher who was the one being rude. Sounds like he was of the I-should-be-worshipped-you-puny-student variety.
Those are very interesting points. I think it being a coping mechanism is probably very likely. And, yes, that professor was definitely of that variety! Ugh.
